Embroidered Cactus Dress

Yeahhh...it's been awhile.  Over a year, I think! Still, I'll continue where I left off with yet another VFT dress, made end of February/early March 2018.  I admit that I stole the idea of this dress from someone who posted theirs on the VFT facebook page, I don't remember who so I can't give them credit, but I just loved their dress so much that I had to make one for Elisa. I even found the same cactus print at Hobby Lobby, and the same embroidery design with a simple internet search.
My first step was to do the embroidery, which was accented with some fabric paint. I had a good time doing the embroidery and painting, and I like the way it turned out except that the fabric paint bled out over the lines. Pretty decent for my first attempt at combining embroidery and sewing!
For the dress, I used the Kate dress pattern from who else other than Violette Field Threads. I made the dress a size 7, but it turned out huge, like size 8/10.  Which is completely fine by me.  Elisa wore a shirt under for the winter, and now, two years later, miss skinny-minnie still wears it and it fits her just fine:
